| Representative and a Senator from Kansas; born in Garnett, Kans., September 12, 1956. He was an attorney in Manhattan, Kansas before becoming the Kansas secretary of agriculture in 1986. In 1990, he was accepted into the White House Fellow program and detailed to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative from 1990 to 1991. Brownback then returned to Kansas to resume his position as secretary of agriculture and remained in that position until 1993. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1994, and next ran in the 1996 special Senatorial election to replace Bob Dole, who had resigned his Senate seat during his presidential campaign. Brownback defeated U.S. Senator Sheila Frahm, who had been appointed to fill the seat of U.S. Senator Bob Dole in 1996, when Dole resigned in the middle of his term to campaign for president. In the general election, he defeated Democrat Jill Docking and was elected to a full term in the Senate in 1998. He won re-election in the 2004 Senate election with 69% of the vote, easily defeating his Democratic challenger, Lee Jones, a former Washington, D.C. lobbyist. | |
| Born October 6, 1949, is a Republican politician who served as Governor of Virginia and Chairman of the Republican National Committee. He is a declared candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.Gilmore was born in Richmond, Virginia to Margaret Evelyn Kandle and James Stuart Gilmore, Jr., a grocery store meat cutter. He graduated from John Randolph Tucker High School and received an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1971. After a three-year tour as a U.S. Army counterintelligence agent in West Germany, he entered the University of Virginia Law School, graduating in 1977. After working for a decade as a lawyer at the firm Benedetti, Gilmore, Warthen and Dalton, he was elected Commonwealth's Attorney in his home county of Henrico County in 1987 and 1991. Gilmore was elected Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1997. From 1999 to 2003, Gilmore chaired the Congressional Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction, nicknamed the Gilmore Commission.A "Draft Gilmore for President" group was formed in August 2006 encouraging Gilmore to run for president. On December 19, 2006, Gilmore announced he would form an exploratory committee to "fill the conservative void" in the race. | |

He is best known as the Mayor of New York City during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Giuliani went on to Manhattan College in Riverdale, Bronx, where he majored in political science with a minor in philosophy; there he considering becoming a Catholic priest. He was elected president of his class in his sophomore year, but lost the same election in his junior year. He joined the Phi Rho Pi fraternity, and was active in shaping its direction.He graduated in 1965. Giuliani was U.S. Attorney until January 1989, resigning as the Reagan administration ended. He garnered criticism until he left office for his zealous handling of cases and was accused of prosecuting cases for political ambitions. He joined the law firm White & Case in New York City as a partner. He remained with White & Case until May 1990, when he joined the law firm Anderson Kill Olick & Oshinsky, also in New York City. | |

Jim Guy Tucker. Huckabee became Arkansas' 44th elected governor after winning the November 1998 election with the highest percentage of the vote ever received by a Republican gubernatorial nominee in Arkansas. He was elected to another four-year term in November 2002. He was only the third Republican governor of the state since Reconstruction. Thompson has dedicated his life and career to public service, first as a state lawmaker from his hometown of Elroy, Wisconsin, followed by an unprecedented four terms as Governor of Wisconsin and four years as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As Governor of Wisconsin from 1987 to 2001, Thompson repeatedly cut taxes while holding the line on state spending. Under Thompson, Wisconsin led the nation in moving tens of thousands of families off of the dependence on a welfare check to the independence of a paycheck. He removed government from the schoolhouse door for thousands of minority students in Milwaukee by allowing them to choose where they go to school – no matter where they live or how much money their families earn. A college history professor, conservative political leader, and prolific author, Gingrich twice ran unsuccessfully for the House before first winning a seat in November 1978. He was re-elected 10 times, and his activism as a member of the House's Republican minority eventually enabled him to succeed Dick Cheney as House Minority Whip in 1989.
